Weekend Adventures

Feb 22

We had another huge weekend. On Saturday we headed down to the beach with 3 of the boys from my class, Damien, PJ and Harold. We took the skimboard down and it was amazing to see that the kids who have no fear in water with crocs or chasing wild boars, were scared to try skimboarding. They eventually had a go after watching me for a while and did a good job. They were all telling me they were keen to have another go next time and get better at it.

After the beach, the boys wanted to show us the lookout. They told us it was a 3 minute walk and after walking for about 20 minutes we finally got to the top. The view from up there was awesome!

Today (Sunday), we headed out to the waterfalls, as me and the boys were really keen to show 'Miss'. It was another awesome day out there and this time we got to spend around 4 hours out there. The best thing about this time was that I didn't go falling over the edge! We did plenty of swimming, climbing and fishing. Damien caught a pet turtle for us and he put him in his backpack so we could take him home. Harold opened the backpack to give us a look and as soon as the zip was opened the turtle was out and back into the river. Later on, PJ caught a tiny little turtle, that was about as big as my palm. It was so cool and we definately wanted to take him home and look after him. So we zipped him up in the backpack. After a bit more fishing, we decided to go for a swim before we went home. We put the turtle in a small rockpool so he had fresh water. We blocked him in with rocks and a hand line. We went for a swim at the base of the falls and then decided it was time to come home. When we got back to the top, the turle was gone! We still couldn't figure out how he had escaped and the only way out was over the falls. So we hope he was alright. Amanda and I were a bit upset because we really wanted to keep him. The boys looked and fished hoping to get us another one. In the end, the boys told us they would get us a really small turtle from another spot where the little turtles are about the size of a 50 cent coin. So we can't wait!

This weekend was probably the best weekend I have had in Lockhart so far. The kids are so cool and helpful and tell us so much about everything that goes on up here. Another full on weekend!
