The Reef!!!
Getting up at 5:00am Yesterday was probably not the best start to a Sunday morning, but at the end of the day I was so happy I got up. At 5:30 Stu and I rocked up at the Police Station and we loaded up the Police Boat and got ready to head out to the Great Barrier Reef. After we put the boat in the water, it was about an hour trip out to the first reef we stopped at. I geared up with my snorkelling gear and jumped into the water. As I looked down, I couldn't believe it! There were millions of the coolest looking fish I had only ever dreamed of seeing. There were huge corals everywhere too! It was amazing! After about 5 minutes, Dave the Policeman had already speared 3 massive crays! They were unbelievable! As I was swimming back towards the boat a White Tip Reef Shark cruised past me. I was loving it!
We then headed out to the next reef and just after I got in, I saw an anenome that was about 2 metres by 2 metres. It was massive! As I got closer, I reckon there would've been about 50 Clown Fish inside it. I was blown away, it was awesome! Just after that Dave and I spotted a white stingray cruising towards us. I'd never seen a white stingray and he was about 2 metres in diameter. He was huge!
After that we stopped at a couple of other reefs. The highlight being a 2 metre+ White Tip Reef Shark cruising towards me, stopping and looking at me then veering past me. I was stressing! Other than that, we saw a huge pod of dolphins, plenty of turtles and the most amazing fish and corals I'd ever seen. We also came home with 4 massive crays and about 8 Coral Trout.
Having a reef like this so close to us has made me want a boat asap! So I'm currently on the lookout! Today Amanda got home from Cairns with my underwater camera housing, so I'm that pumped to get out there again and take photos of everything I saw out there!
Here are a couple of photos of our dinner that night:
